Survey Report: Manufacturers are leading the way in AI adoption, with more than 60% predicting that it will take only 11 months to achieve their AI goals
In the coming wave of Industry 5.0, artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to play a central role in the transformation of the manufacturing industry. This forward-looking insight is supported by a new research report from Fluke Reliability, Inc., which reveals strategies for optimizing asset performance by integrating hardware, software, and services, tailored specifically for reliability and maintenance teams.
Conducted by Censuswide and spanning the United States, United Kingdom and Germany, the survey surveyed more than 600 senior decision-makers and maintenance experts to outline the trend of AI technology becoming dominant in the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing industry.
The findings paint a clear and near-consistent picture of the future of manufacturing. A whopping 93% of respondents are convinced that AI will be a top priority for their company's business in the next 12 months. This sentiment also resonates at the organizational level, with 90 percent of senior decision-makers and 75 percent of maintenance managers agreeing.
When discussing the role of AI in predictive maintenance, while only 8% of respondents have fully implemented predictive maintenance strategies so far, 76.5% of respondents said they want to move to a more advanced predictive/proactive maintenance model in the future, with AI technology seen as key to driving this shift.
The commitment of the manufacturers has been translated into concrete action plans. On average, respondents plan to invest up to 44% of their technology budget in AI in 2024. What's more, 30% of respondents intend to invest 51%-75% of their technology budget on AI this year, demonstrating strong confidence in the field.
While only 9% of manufacturers currently consider themselves on the path to Industry 5.0, 61% expect to be able to achieve their AI adoption goals in as little as 11 months.
As Ankush Malhotra, President of Fluke Reliability, points out, "Predictive maintenance is evolving from an expectation to a necessity, especially as skilled labor is increasingly scarce. AI shows us a clear path, and there is a general consensus in the industry that manufacturers who fail to adapt to this change are at risk of being marginalized. The results of this survey clearly show that while AI is buzzing in many industries, manufacturers are not just talking, they are doing. ”
For manufacturers planning to invest in AI in the coming year, the main drivers for their actions are the significant benefits of AI, including:
- Possibility to explore new products and services (35%)
- Leading the way in data processing and analysis (35%)
- Meet criteria to improve customer service (35%)
- Boost efficiency and productivity (34%)
- Alleviating the pressure of a shortage of highly skilled talent (31%)
